ViewSonic's International Business Unit Headquarters moves to Europe

12 January, 2000

As part of its strategic plan to become the leading provider of display products in the world, ViewSonic has announced the relocation of its International Business Unit Headquarters to Europe.

The move illustrates parent company ViewSonic Corporation's ongoing commitment to its international presence and recognition of the importance of the European market. The relocation, which will take place at the beginning of 2000, will ensure greater emphasis and locality of this lucrative market. The International Business Unit Headquarters is charged with accelerating ViewSonic's worldwide growth and ensuring a healthy balance between ViewSonic's international and US sales operations.

The unit will be led by Senior Vice President of International Business Units, Christopher Franey, who moves from the company's global headquarters in Walnut, California to the European headquarters in Crawley, England. In addition, Christopher will maintain his current responsibilities for the Canadian, European, Asian, and Latin American Business Units.

Christopher joined ViewSonic in 1993 as National Sales Manager and since that time he has been instrumental in growing the company's sales volume in the US, Canada and Latin America from $100 million to more than $750m by 1998. His focussed efforts and leadership during this period contributed to several of ViewSonic's successes, including being named CMP's CRN Channel Champions in the US and Canada and the VAR Business Magazine APEX award winner for the third consecutive year.

In moving to Europe, Christopher will provide in-depth experience of the international marketplace combined with a valuable understanding of global organisations. This will enable Christopher to build a strong presence throughout Europe and develop powerful partnerships with the European customer base, which, in turn, will drive significant increases in revenue, profitability and global market share.

Michael Kommer, Managing Director of ViewSonic Europe, said: "The relocation of the International Business Unit Headquarters demonstrates ViewSonic's commitment to developing the company as a true global competitor.

"This move serves to dispel the negative rumours within the IT industry about ViewSonic's long term emphasis to an international presence. This is an exciting step forward in ViewSonic's worldwide strategy and a significant investment by the company in support of its global objectives."

This year has been an exceptionally successful one for ViewSonic in Europe and the US. In Europe, annual sales figures have grown more than 25% in 1999 to total more than $180 million and globally ViewSonic sales will reach in excess of $1 billion.

During 1999, the display technology company became the first to introduce several revolutionary new products to the market such as the digital 18" LCD, the VPD180. This trend is set to continue with two digital CRT's and a high-density 21" analogue/digital LCD display to be previewed at CeBIT.

In addition, the company's reputation as a price/performance leader was reaffirmed following its win of 70 awards from leading publications and organisations throughout Europe in 1999.

ViewSonic Corporation has also been extremely successful with its ranking as the United States' No. 1 best selling flat panel display provider by Display Search (Q1 '99) and the No. 1 best selling independent monitor brand by Standford Resources (Monitrak Q1 '99). In addition, ViewSonic had the highest unit market share in North America as ranked by Display Search (Q2 '99).

The relocation of its International Business Unit Headquarters follows a restructuring of ViewSonic Europe's Executive Team earlier this year. Michael Kommer remains as Managing Director Europe and Michel Grunspan joins the Executive Team following a promotion to Vice President Pan European Sales and Channels. Formerly General Manager for ViewSonic

Southern Europe, Michel's new role involves responsibility for future profitable growth throughout ViewSonic's European and Middle Eastern areas.

Michael Kommer said: "We want to invest considerable energy in improving the relationship with our business partners. In order to achieve operational excellence, it is necessary to design and implement a new value proposition that will take the company forward into the new millennium."
