ViewSonic Europe announces new mobile solutions at ISE 2007
Ruggedised enterprise PDA and thin client wireless tablet enable efficient mobile communications
30 January 2007 – ViewSonic, a worldwide leader in visual display products, launched new mobile solutions today: a range of ruggedised PDA’s and a thin client wireless tablet, aimed at improving mobile communications and productivity for a number of markets.
Ruggedised handhelds
The first mobile offering is based on the V38r range, a newly-designed ruggedised, handheld, digital assistant. With integrated Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, barcode scanner, GPS, camera, fingerprint sensor and many others features, these products have been specifically designed to meet mobile computing demands across a variety of industries including retail, logistics, public safety and healthcare.
Built on Microsoft’s PPC 2003 operating system and Intel Xscale® CPU, the ViewSonic V38r handheld devices are compatible with existing IT infrastructures. In addition, they meet the IP54 design standards for sealing against dust, moisture and extreme environmental conditions, while offering secure data exchange with 802.11b/g wireless communications.
The V38r models feature a bright 3.5-inch 240 x 320 LCD display and fast 520MHZ Intel Xscale processor, along with a hot-swappable, rechargeable Li-Ion battery that allows battery changes without shut-down or loss of data. A convenient jog-dial and four launch buttons enable quick and simple navigation through files and applications while a built-in Secure Digital (SD) slot provides additional memory for storage and back-up operations.
With these industry standards and features integrated in the V38r, the devices lead the field in ease of deployment, customization and management, making them ideal for mobile workers who require sturdy, handheld computers far more durable than consumer-grade PDAs. For example, using the V38r devices, chemical and manufacturing warehouse managers can track inventory, doctors can access vital medical information, and law enforcement officials can communicate tactical information or identify suspects in real-time.
Thin client tablets
ViewSonic’s new V212 thin client device can be used in many vertical applications including healthcare, logistics and leisure. Its 10-inch, touch-screen display lets users access files, data and video remotely, within their wireless network, through an integrated 802.11b/g connection. The V212 also allows warehouse workers to easily track inventory in real-time, doctors to update medical records at patients’ bedsides and corporate users to process e-mail, manage databases or access video content away from their desks. Other versions feature an optional magnetic stripe scanner to allow quick capture and processing of data such as drivers licenses, ID cards or credit cards.
The V212 uses Microsoft CE.Net Framework to provide a look and feel that is similar to Windows PCs, making it easy for users to quickly become familiar with the new technology. It features a 520MHz Intel Bulverde processor, a separate video co-processor to enable streaming video playback, as well as optional integrated speakers. All combine to enable users to take advantage of most functionalities of their PC in an ultra-portable tablet. The display also includes a Li-Ion battery providing six hours of charge, a compact flash slot for media cards, and an infrared port to communicate with other infrared terminals commonly found on TVs and stereos.
The display contains no moving parts, which improves the device’s durability and ensures low overall cost of ownership by minimising breakage and required technical support as compared to a laptop or tablet PC.
Available now the V212 wireless tablet will be sold through authorised ViewSonic distributors and resellers.
