USB
Universal Serial Bus. 10MHz serial bus allowing linking and hot-plugging of computer peripherals via USB port on motherboard.

USB II
Upgraded high speed serial bus, backwards compatible to USB. Rival to Firewire for inclusion on PC motherboards.

Vertical Refresh Rate
See Refresh Rate.

Vertical Scanning
Vertical movement the electron beam traces across the phosphor dots on the CRT.

Vertical Scanning Frequency
The rate in Hz of how many times per second the electron beam can "refresh" an image from the top line to the bottom line of the screen.

VESA®
Video Electronic Standards Association. A standards making body covering all aspects of computer displays.

VGA
Video standard with resolution 640x480. Stands for Video Graphics Array.

Video Bandwidth
See Bandwidth.

Video Response (response time)
The time it takes to turn a pixel from OFF to ON to OFF again. A low number is desirable to display moving images without ghosting.

Viewing Angle
A cone perpendicular to the LCD in which the contrast ratio exceeds 10.

Viewing Area
The actual area that can be illuminated when the entire screen is turned ON (white).

ViewMatch®
Allows users to adjust the colour temperature and individual colour intensity for easy screen-to- print matching.

VLF
An Acronym for Very Low Frequency. Defines frequency range from 3,000 to 30,000 Hz. This type of electromagnetic radiation is emitted from the monitor's deflection yoke.

XGA
Video standard with resolution 1024x768. Stands for Extended Graphics Array.
